Jacquemus: 10 years of magic
22nd July 2019 - Aina Matamoros
I know it’s been almost a month since the last Jacquemus show, but it was so amazing that it got me a little while to write about it and be fair with the beauty of it all.
The young French designer celebrated the 10th anniversary of his brand during the last Men’s Fashion Week Spring 2020. He presented a collection named Le Coup de Soleil (the touch of the Sun) for both men and women (so he is not going to take part in September’s Women Fashion Weeks) in a magical and unbeatable place: a gorgeous lavender field in La Provence (South of France), where he is from. He is so proud of his origins and the fact that he is self-made, so he wanted to share with everybody the indescribable beauty of his born place and celebrate that everything is possible in life if you just believe in it and work hard to achieve it. With this collection and show, he also reclaims that you will only be successful if you always keeping on mind who you are and where you come from if you always speak the truth of yourself in your work. That is authentic and that is what people (should) value the most.
The setting was amazing. The longest pink catwalk ever emerged in the middle of these beautiful lavender fields (I can feel the smell just by looking at the pictures). The models walked down this pink fabric line that only had one row for the audience on each side (so everyone was front row seated and I guess there were no problems of egos, as it usually happens).
About the collection, there were men and women clothes but most of them could be worn by either of them (you could see it in the lines and shapes of some suits, pants, and shirts). Pastel colors (including pink, green, orange, yellow, lavender, grey and beige) and smooth floral summery prints dominated the collection, which presented a very “I am on vacation in the South of France and yes I am a foreigner” aesthetic (especially for the men looks). Accessorizes were also a very important piece in every outfit. The hats were present in almost every look: bell-shaped for the girls and Safari type for the boys. Also, the models were carrying all kinds of bags: funny packs, backpacks, purses and the signature miniature Jacquemus bags for the women. Fluid shirts, pants, and long and short dresses, squared off-duty blazers and Bermuda shorts were the star clothes of the collection.
Simon Porte Jacquemus is one of my personal favorite designers and I am so happy he is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of its brand. And I like him and the brand not just because of the wonderful clothes he designs (which by the way I would wear them all, really), but also because of the values behind the concept he shows to people with Jacquemus. It represents to be proud of who you are, to appreciate the simplicity of the little things, to be happy with the people you love, to work hard for what you want and to prove that everything is possible. And that is why his clothes are amazingly perfect and he has made himself a name on the world’s fashion industry on his own.
Long life Jacquemus!
