About flowers and floral prints: why do we love them so much?

23rd March 2019 - Aina Matamoros

As I was saying in my post about spring trends for 2019, the most beloved season is here. And with it, the good weather, the outdoor plans, the bugs and, the queens of the party: the flowers.

Flowers: these small and colorful pieces of nature that bloom in spring, showing unique and beautiful shapes and colors along with its petals and stigma and emitting nice and pleasant different smells. Mother Nature’s wonder.

I think we ladies have a fascination with flowers. We all have a favorite flower for its color, its shape, and its smell, and also for what it represents. I think we all identify as flowers and each one of us feels connected to each one of them. I am getting a little too deep and emotional here, but I really believe what I am saying. Flowers are delicate and fragile but smart and strong because, without them, the fruit, the final goal, would not be able to grow. And that is what women do: be the strength to make everything grow and be what it has to be. I guess that is why we women love flowers so much.

And this translates to clothes and the way we dress, of course, as everything in our life does, even though some people may not notice it. We dress as we feel, as a reflection of our personality and we use the clothes to express ourselves and present us to the world.

What is the one item we women all have in our closet? Yes, a floral printed clothing item. Normally and in the 99%, it is a floral maxi dress. It is timeless. It is so wearable we would wear it every day during the spring and part of summer. It is comfortable, easy and elegant at the same time. It has so many possibilities: from the office to a wedding, going through date night, lunch with friends, beach day and excursion to the countryside.

Floral dresses come in so many prints, so many shapes and fits and so many colors that we all find the perfect one for us, the one that feels like made for ourselves. Some of us become so obsessed with floral prints and dresses that they own more than 5 or 10! And maybe that is too much, I admit… We have to think the floral print world does not end in dresses, but it also covers shirts, tops, skirts, pants, shoes, bags, light jackets, blazers (that can be tricky, though) and literally anything you can put on yourself.

We all love flowers and we do not have to stop loving them. They represent so many beautiful things and I really believe women have strong connection to them. However, in terms of fashion and speaking from a fashion insider point of view: ladies, the world does not end in a floral print dress, there are so many more prints and colors that are perfect for spring and we have to embrace them and see what we can look good in other possibilities.

However, flowers and floral prints have been, are and always will be the queens of spring. Look at the following designer looks that prove it:
